ANNOUNCING: The Human Resilience Toolkit for Change-Makers

Dear friends!

We are extremely excited to launch the online version of our Human Resilience Toolkit for Change-makers. We had the wonderful opportunity to work with some beautiful talents and inspired folks across Canada and beyond.

The Human Resilience Toolkit is an attempt to provide those who yearn to see their community become resilient to the potential trauma of change. It is meant to help individuals not only to cope with the crisis of sudden change but also to grow and to prosper.

Breakdown of the toolkit:

The toolkit is broken down into seven sessions that guides you in the setting up of a successful Human Resilience Workshop.

1) Resilience Index: The Resilience Index helps you determine if your community(ies) is/are resilient. Explore which community or communities you belong to and when answering these questions, reassess what community you are answering for.

2) Visioning Community: In this session, participants are asked to brainstorm their understanding of what a resilient community means to them. This session will allow participants to come up with a working definition of community and resilience.

3) Uncovering Roots: This session explores the importance of intergenerational relationships. A key sign of social isolation is a lack of

connection with one’s personal history. This session helps participants reflect on where they come from and how their ancestors overcame trauma and were resilient in times of change and crisis.

4) Forum Theatre: Forum Theatre is a participatory theatre where individuals reflect on difficult topics. During this session, participants explore the importance of intervention when witnessing various forms of oppression such as sexism, racism, phobia, among others. It can also be used to examine scenarios such as hate speech, radicalization, etc.

5) Reclaiming Narratives: This session is used to consider the difference between resisting a negative narrative and reclaiming a particular narrative. Participants look at the impact that media has on resilience and how to create a narrative of resilience instead of simply resisting a narrative of trauma and oppression.

6) Story Pitch: This session helps participants take a particular story (either personal or communal) and package it so that it isrelevant to the general public. Participants will look at strategies to make a pitch.

7) Initiative Design: The initiative design is the final session of the workshop and is inspired by Ideo.org’s Human-Centered Design. HCD which

is a design method based on user’s experience to create relevant products that can impact change in one’s respective community. The

Initiative Design session in the Human Resilience Toolkit will assist participants
